Where Does Your PCSO Lotto Money Go? The Charity Behind the Sweepstakes
How PCSO splits ticket sales between prizes, charity and operations, and how lotto revenue funds medical assistance and community programmes across the Philippines.
- PCSO is the government’s charity fundraising agency.
- Ticket sales are split between prizes, a charity fund and operating costs.
- Charity funds support medical assistance, ambulances and disaster relief.
Every time you buy a lotto ticket, part of your money leaves the game entirely — and that is by design. The “C” in PCSO stands for Charity, and the agency’s whole reason for existing is to raise funds for health and social programmes.
How ticket sales are divided
Under the PCSO charter (Republic Act No. 1169, as amended), revenue from sales is split into three pools:
| Fund | Commonly cited share | What it pays for |
|---|---|---|
| Prize fund | About 55% | Jackpots and fixed prizes for winners |
| Charity fund | About 30% | Medical assistance, health programmes, relief |
| Operating fund | About 15% | Draws, outlets, staff and systems |
Laws affecting PCSO and its remittances are published in the Official Gazette of the Philippines. For the agency’s own reports, visit the PCSO website.
What the charity fund supports
- Medical assistance: help with hospital bills, medicines, dialysis and chemotherapy for qualified patients.
- Ambulance donations to local government units.
- Disaster relief after typhoons and earthquakes.
- Mandated contributions to national health and sports programmes.

Unclaimed prizes help too
Prizes not claimed within one year are forfeited and added to the charity fund. Of course, we’d rather you claim yours — here’s how to claim a PCSO prize.
